In ‘The Discovery of the Child‘ Maria Montessori describes the nature of the child and her method. She believes that once her principles of her method have been applied it will become simple for practitioners to implement her method. She challenges the traditional classroom and instead inputs a peaceful classroom where teachers are not mainly focused on maintaining discipline in the classroom but allowing the children to interact with their environment and its Montessori materials as the means to learn. The child learns form the Montessori environment including the teacher who becomes a facilitator of the child’s learning.
